portraits

I had great fun taking these portraits using only ambient light. They were quite challenging to get, but I am pretty happy with the results. [Best_Wordpress_Gallery id="15" gal_title="pertraits_02"] Photo descriptions Left:- Not just a movie director from Cape Town, but also a cool guy to get to know with a heart of gold. Middle:- Waitresses at the Erewan restaurant in Durbanville, Cape Town. Right:- I thought this elderly lady had a very interesting face so I could not stop myself from chatting with her and then taking this photograph. Would you like to see more? Evolution

[Best_Wordpress_Gallery id="14" gal_title="evolution"] Here are three photographs of a fabulous scene at Hartbeespoort dam. They cover the same scene over a two year period and show a home that undergoes a transformation during this period. I enjoy revisiting and shooting this scene from time to time. This has resulted in me capturing a series of images depicting the progress of the demolition of part of the home and the subsequent extension that was built on. You can see that series of photos by clicking on the "architecture" link in the photo gallery. Soon I will be adding more photographs of this attractive landscape that were taken at different times of the…

du Toitskloof

These three photographs were taken during our trip to Cape Town earlier this year. They were captured between 05:22 and 05:52 in the morning as we exited the du Toitskloof pass just outside Paarl. Photo descriptions Bottom Right:- After exiting the pass, I pulled the car over into a vacant parking area. We looked back to where we had just come from and saw this beautiful morning view of the cutting. Top Right:- This is the winding road down the mountain that we took which led us past Paarl and into Cape Town. Notice how the powerful wind storm has made the tree blur due to it's fast rocking movement…

A fabulous New Year’s Eve

[Best_Wordpress_Gallery id="7" gal_title="new years eve 2015"] While my friend reclines with feet up, cigar in hand and his thoughts far, far away, a guest of his enthralls us with deeply moving and inspiring melodies on his cello. In the darkness of the midnight hour a lantern stood on the stoop as if to guide us safely through the veil of the unknown future we are about to face.

I had such fun producing this Christmas card and inserting our images into the snow globe... and it was even more fun getting the snow to animate in the globe. This image is a composite of 4 photographs and 7 graphical elements. I had so much fun during the entire creation process that I plan to do a number of similar composites in the near future.

Wedding Couple

I happened upon this wedding couple at the Union Buildings in Pretoria recently and simply loved their relaxed and easy going manner. The fact that they were having fun allowed me to capture these spontaneous photos of them. I retouched each one of them differently to create varying mood effects and interest. I enjoy capturing lovely early morning, natural light images of the Union Buildings and other subjects. Would you like to see some of them? John Golden Photography has an unbelievable photo shoot special coming out later today. I recommend you came back here and check it out. This is an offer that won't be repeated again.

Special Effects

From time to time I enjoy taking time out and doing special effects photography. There are so many methods one can use, each with its own unique outcome. Sometimes I will use an in camera technique to get effects. On other occasions I will use software manipulation to achieve a result. Yet on other occasions I will use a combination of both. I these three photos presented here I used long exposure, movement and bokeh in-camera techniques simultaneously. I enjoy doing this kind of photography because one cannot predict exactly what the outcome of the photograph will be, making it a fun filled experimental process.
